Known world-wide as the 602 Brno, the CZ 550 Safari Magnum is a true full-sized magnum, not a smaller action blown out to barely hold the cartridge with only 2 rounds in the magazine. On the contrary, the Safari Magnum can hold 3 Rigbys in the magazine!

Features include 3-leaf express sights (1 standing, 2 folding), hammer forged barrel and single set trigger. The stock is made from select Turkish walnut and has a classic safari shape. The controlled round feed and fixed ejector make this rifle reliable enough for heavy and dangerous game.

      Shot this beautiful Antelope at 225 yards with a 400 grain bullet. This was on a hillside in the Luangwa River Valley in Zambia. I used my set trigger and put a good heart shot in him.

      During a recent hunt in Botswana, I took this eland at 60 meters with a quarter facing shot through some low brush using my CZ 550 Safari Magnum in .416 Rigby.  The rifle performs wonderfully and it has quickly become one of my favorite guns.  I look forward to taking many other species with it!  My PH, Riaan Lourens, is in the photo as well and has done a tremendous job for me in organizing several hunts in Africa.

      Good morning, Alice –

      I wanted to drop you a note and tell you how pleased I am with my CZ-550 in .416 Rigby. 

      Earlier this year I accepted a post in South Africa which gave me a perfect opportunity to do some hunting here.  I asked Todd if CZ had a good safari gun, and of course he came back to with the CZ-550 Safari Classic.  So I ordered one in .416 Rigby (I have other .30 class rifles) and went on my way.

      I have to admit the first time on the range with the .416 Rigby was a little intimidating, but the rifle was well balanced, shot right on target, and has an excellent trigger set.  Last week I finished my first African plains game safari.  I took seven species and used my CZ-550 to take a zebra and a blue wildebeest.  The gun performed flawlessly and loaded with a 400 gr partition bullet, it brought those animals down quickly without any cape damage or meat wastage.  While I realize the .416 Rigby is probably “over-gunning” for most mid-size game, but now having used it in the bush I feel quite comfortable in taking it out for larger and dangerous game.  It is now one of my favorite and most accurate rifles!

      Attached are pictures of the two animals taken with the CZ-550.  The zebra was taken at about 90 metres, straight on shot to the chest.  The wildebeest was about 82 metres, taken broad side in the neck.  I used open sights (and intend to keep it that way).  Just wanted to share this with you – I plan to add more CZ rifles to my battery!

      Just a few comments about my CZ550 safari Magnum in .416 Rigby. I chose this model because I liked the stock profile, even though it is probably more European than American. It has character, in my opinion. The stock is nicely figured Turkish walnut, with nicely done hand checkering & no overruns. The open sights are as good as they come and very sturdy. It shoots well & the rifle recoils straight back. in spite of the stock profile. The action was not as smooth as I liked when I first got it but after about 150 rounds through it it is much smoother, as smooth as it needs to be, not being a custom rifle. All in all, good value for the money.

      This 200 lb Ontario black bear was cleanly taken with one 350-grain TSX Barnes in a frontal chest shot at 90 yards from my CZ 550 .458 Win Mag in Sept/09.

      The CZ-550 Safari .375 H&H Magnum delivered this beautiful 10 pointer at 150 yds using a 300gr soft point. I continue to be amazed at the medium to long range consistent accuracy of this rifle.

CZ 455 American

CZ 550 embodies aesthetic elegance and ergonomic design. On closer inspection the heart of the machine shows its time honored features.

· Mauser style claw extractor
· Square bridge receiver
· Hammer forged barrel
· Single set trigger

The Mauser style claw extractor for positive loading and extraction, and compact trigger mechanism which can be used as a single stage or a single set trigger. The CZ 550 has a positive 2-position safety. All CZ 550's feature a classic square bridge receiver with a 19mm dovetail milled right into the receiver for the mounting of optics. For accuracy and long life these rifles are fitted with hammer forged barrels.

The CZ 550 Lux and CZ 550 FS are traditional European style models featuring adjustable open sights and Turkish walnut stock in the famous Bavarian pattern while CZ 550 American, CZ 550 Varmint and CZ 550 Prestige are models made specifically for the US market with our American customer in mind featuring American pattern stock with 18 LPI checkering.
