Bobby Holik

Robert " Bobby " Holik Czech Americans NHL Legend has teamed up with CZ-USA to promote the CZ line of bolt action rifles, semiautomatic handgunsand handcrafted shotguns.

Bobby's new blog "Holik on Shooting" keeps us current with his schedule of appearances and shooting activities.  He also shares his insights on CZ and Dan Wesson firearms as well as his unique perspective on conservation, and gun ownership.  Stop by www.holikonshooting.com to read the latest.

The ice hockey center began his U.S. career with the Hartford Whalers won two Stanley Cups with the New Jersey Devils and went on to play for the New York Rangers and Atlanta  Thrashers.  In his 1,314 career NHL games, Holik scored 747 points (326 goals, 421 assists) and became one of the most productive Czech born players in the NHL.

His career in professional hockey was without doubt influenced by his father, (also a hockey world champion both as a player and coach) but Bobby’s current passion for the outdoors is influenced more by his grandfather who was an avid hunter.

Like his grandfather, Bobby treasures our outdoor heritage.  At home on his ranch in Wyoming, Bobby understands our responsibility as custodians for the land and wildlife on a first hand basis.

An interest in history and politics helped Bobby become a strong supporter of the second amendment. This along with his Czech roots made Bobby a fan of the products from CZ.  Before his hockey career, Bobby first became familiar with the guns of CZ in the military.  He currently shoots CZ pistols, rifles and a CZ-USA shotgun for sporting clays.

CZ-USA welcomes Bobby Holik as the newst member of the CZ-USA Shooting Team.  Bobby will represent CZ-USA at shooting events around the country, while raising money for charity and conservation.

Bobby Holik, NHL legend is amongst the most successful hockey players of the Czech origin. He was drafted by the Hartford Whalers in 1989 and after two seasons he was traded to the New Jersey Devils where he played for ten seasons and won two Stanley Cups with his team in 1995 and 2000. In 2002-03 season he went to the New York Rangers as a free agent and in 2005 he signed with the Atlanta Thrashers. He became a captain of the team for 2007-08 season. In 2008 he signed one year contract with the New Jersey Devils and on May 23,2009 he announced his retirement from NHL after 18 successful seasons at the age of 38.

I have spent last week with Bobby shooting various CZ firearms (pistols, long range rifles, shotguns) and talking about CZ products, his life and hockey.

Bobby was very pleased with the meeting.  He has hit a target of the size of a number plate at 1000 yards with CZ 550 HET – high energy tactical rifle in .338 Lapua, he was consistently shooting CZ 550 American in .308 Win at 400 yards and he has harvested his first big game animal with CZ 550 American in .270 Win, a corsican sheep. We have shot over 1000 rounds with CZ pistols and I was laughing at the trap house when only hand full of the clay targets made it to the ground. At the end of the trip  Bobby mentioned that he is going to be buying a bigger gun safe as he marked few more products off the CZ-USA’s catalog....

Q: How did you find your way from ice hockey to shooting sports and CZ-USA?

A: I have always enjoyed all outdoor activities including shooting .After I retired from hockey I started to spend more time at the shooting ranges. I have had two CZ firearms in my collection (CZ 75 B and CZ 455) and I was very happy with the accuracy and the feel of CZ firearms. Friend of mine owns a shooting range and shooting school in WY and he has put me in touch with Alice at CZ-USA and she has offered me the position of celebrity spokesperson for CZ-USA.

Q: Your first „introduction“ to shooting industry in the CZ colors was during the Buffalo Bill InvitationalShootout in Cody, WY. Did you enjoy the event?

A: Absolutely. I have always loved history and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center with its collection of firearms is very important monument to the American history and to the Spirit of the American West. I have also presented on behalf of CZ-USA a Dan Wesson pistol to the museum’s collection.

Q: What is your favorite firearm from the CZ line?

A: I love all of the CZ firearms that I own. If I could only choose one handgun it would be CZ P-07 Duty in .40 S&W. For breaking clay targets I enjoy the CZ Sporting 12ga over and under.

Q: Do you think that hand-eye coordination that is so important for a hockey playerhelped you to become a good shooter?

A: Yes, there are a lot of similarities between the hockey and shooting. The good hand-eye coordination helps me at shotgun sports and I realize how important is the follow through. I love that at both sports you get instant gratification. I am very happy when I hit a steel plate or if I break the clay target. Similar to scoring a goal at the game.

Q: Only 4% of all NHL players dress up for more than 1000 games. You played 1314games in your 18 years in NHL. Was the transition to regular life difficult?

A: I come from a hockey family and hockey was my life. I played since I was five years old and fortunately my parents have prepared me for the fact that one day the carreer will be over. I have always kept their advice on my mind and planned my post-hockey life. I got married early and my family has supported me unconditionally through my years of hockey. I have retired at the top of my form as I have realized that it is my turn to spend time with my family and be there for them. My daughter, Hannah Marie is 14 years old and I am helping her to persue her dreams now.

Q: Where can CZ fans meet you in person and perhaps get an autograph from you?

A: I will be attending CZ booth at the Shot Show in Las Vegas in January 2012, NRA Show in St. Louis in April 2012 and I have several fundraiser events planned for 2012. First fundraiser shoot of the season will be a Sporting Clay event in Loveland, CO that benefits Colorado Youth Outdoors Program that promotes outdoor activities to high school kids and their parents. It is very rare to see nowadays parents actively participating in their teenage kids lives and Colorado Youth Outdoors just have the right afterschool outdoor programs.
